The firm's Appellate practice group has been building an outstanding team of experienced appellate advocates for nearly 30 years. Through the years the group has become respected by legal professionals and judges at both the state and federal court levels. This recognition reflects the team’s legal maturity, record of successful appeals and strong client advocacy.
Our experienced appellate attorneys have argued hundreds of cases in the Michigan Court of Appeals, the Michigan Supreme Court, and the federal Circuit Courts of Appeals. More than half of the appeals we handle are referrals from outside the firm. In addition to their service to the appellate bench and bar, the great depth of this group is shown by their clear, persuasive and superbly researched briefs.
The Appellate practice group includes experts Noreen Slank, Deborah Hebert, John Zevalking, Geoffrey Brown, and Tracey Bobo.
Noreen Slank, and Deborah Hebert, have both served the Appellate Practice Section of the State Bar of Michigan as chairpersons and council members. Noreen frequently lectures on matters of appellate practice and is one of only a select few attorneys named by Best Lawyers in America as a Michigan “Best” appellate lawyer. Noreen also serves the Michigan Supreme Court as a member of its Model Civil Jury Instruction Committee, a committee of lawyers and judges that meets quarterly to recommend how juries should be instructed on the law. Geoff Brown served the Michigan Court of Appeals as a judge’s clerk before joining the firm.
Collins, Einhorn, Farrell & Ulanoff’s appellate attorneys frequently are engaged to:
- Represent clients in appeals and post trial matters;
- Prepare emergency and other applications for leave to appeal;
- Evaluate the chances of success on appeal;
- Advise trial counsel on matters of issue preservation during trial; and
- Support trial counsel by supplying first-class briefing.
The appellate practice area provides our lawyers with the most direct influence on the rule of law.
