Asbestos/Toxic Tort

Collins, Einhorn, Farrell & Ulanoff’s introduction to the asbestos/toxic and environmental field occurred approximately 30 years ago, in the early days of toxic tort bodily injury litigation. Since that time, the firm has successfully represented large numbers of clients in asbestos/toxic tort personal injury and property damage litigation. The firm currently defends more than 100 companies and in excess of 2,000 toxic tort cases in Michigan.

Our toxic tort practice is not limited geographically to Michigan.  The firm serves as national coordinating counsel for 17 entities involved in asbestos/toxic tort litigation, encompassing 30 states. To efficiently and accurately manage this large volume of cases and statistical data, the firm implemented a state-of-the-art document management system and database.

In addition to the firm’s expertise in the area of asbestos/toxic tort, we also have extensive experience defending clients in a variety of toxic tort/product liability cases, including: welding fumes, benzene, benzidene, silica, toluene, disocyanate, carbon monoxide, lead, and mold. All of the partners in this practice area have trial experience and have lectured or published articles concerning the defense of toxic tort and product liability cases.

The firm’s Asbestos/Toxic Tort practice group enjoys steady growth under the leadership of Clay Farrell. Firm partners Neil MacCallum, Shannon Kos, and Dan Collins also provide specialized expertise in the area of environmental liability. Associates Colleen Burke, Monika Sullivan, Katie Crowley, and David Trimble directly support the team, along with seasoned paralegals Ann Coleman, Michele Parsons, Janet Fuhrman and Sandy Laba. We also call upon a network of recognized experts in the areas of industrial hygiene, pulmonology, pathology, and toxicology for consultation.

Our attorneys are on the cutting edge of the toxic and environmental fields and have served as defense representatives on the Wayne County Circuit Court toxic tort litigation steering committee since the late 1980’s. Serving on this committee entails working with plaintiffs’ counsel, other defense counsel and the Court, to develop rules, practices, and procedures to manage the toxic tort docket in Detroit.
