Karen’s practice primarily focuses on the defense of general and auto liability claims.  For the past several years she has successfully defended matters involving first- and third- party auto, premises liability, liquor license liability and professional liability claims.  Prior to joining the firm, Karen was employed in the public service sector for 15 years having served as the Judicial Staff Attorney to both the Honorable Rudy J. Nichols (retired) and Honorable Dennis Drury (retired) and a Judicial Law Clerk while attending law school in the Oakland County Circuit Court.  Her main job duties involved researching legal issues, drafting opinions, conducting settlement conferences and managing litigation in a general jurisdiction court.

Obtained summary disposition on a legal malpractice case, successfully arguing that alleged statements in the malicious prosecution claim were privileged because they were made in a prior judicial proceeding, and that no attorney/client relationship existed to pursue a legal malpractice claim. (July 2018)

Obtained summary disposition for furniture design company on premises liability claim regarding defective product. (April 2018)

Obtained no-cause jury verdict in Lapeer County Circuit Court for a bar in a Dram Shop Act claim arising out of a fight between patrons in a parking lot. (September 2017)

Obtained multiple summary disposition rulings in favor of national insurance company in 3rd Circuit Court and 46th District Court. Numerous health care providers sued for services rendered to several patients arising out of an alleged auto accident in the insured’s vehicle. The patients’ claims were fraudulent as the insurer nor her vehicle was never in an auto accident. The providers’ claims were denied and ultimately each case dismissed as a matter of law.
