Summary

Deborah handles litigation in the areas of general negligence, professional liability, employment law, auto negligence, legal malpractice, fair debt collection, municipal liability, and product liability. She has tried numerous personal injury, professional liability and employment cases in Wayne, Oakland, Ingham and Genesee Counties. Deborah has a real estate broker’s license and has used her knowledge of the real estate industry to defend claims against title companies, real estate agents, mortgage companies and brokers. She serves as a court-appointed case evaluator in Oakland, Macomb and Wayne Counties. Deborah has also defended civil engineers in claims involving design defects, and other claims of negligence.

Prominent Outcomes

Won summary disposition in Washtenaw County Circuit Court for a well-established Ann Arbor hotel and restaurant based upon its lack of notice in a unique premises liability case. The Court found that the hotel and restaurant had no actual or constructive notice of any alleged water on its stairs prior to plaintiff’s fall and summary disposition was proper pursuant to Michigan Supreme Court’s 2016 Lowrey decision. Attorneys Lujan and Melkonian have successful hearing result in OCCC for non-profit animal rescue organization

Attorneys Deborah A. Lujan and Kari L. Melkonian obtained a preliminary injunction on behalf of a non-profit animal rescue organization in a dispute over a boundary line. After a two-day evidentiary hearing, the Court found that the organization has a likelihood of success on the merits and entered an injunction against the neighboring business from interfering with the client’s use of the disputed portion of the property.
