We are pleased to announce that attorney Erin J. Rodenhouse has been elected to the Birmingham Board of Zoning Appeals.
The essential purpose of zoning is to control community development by regulating land use. The Board of Zoning Appeals reviews requests for dimensional, land-use, and sign variances based on enumerated factors in the city’s charter. The Board also hears appeals from decisions made by city officials charged with enforcing the city’s zoning ordinance and resolves any mapping disputes related to the floodplain.
Erin will be the first woman ever to sit on the Birmingham Board of Zoning Appeals, and she looks forward to giving back to her city: “I love Birmingham for its beauty, safety, outstanding schools, and walkability. I have lived in the city for over a decade and have raised my children there. With that in mind, I hope to bring my experience in appellate law to provide thoughtful review and analysis of the zoning issues that confront the city and its residents.”
Erin is also very involved in the legal community, serving as an active member of the Oakland County Bar Association, Detroit Bar Association, Michigan Bar Association Appellate Practice Group, and Eastern District Federal Bar Association.
