Attorneys Colleen Burke and Karen Geibel Appointed to State Bar of Michigan Representative Assembly

Attorneys Colleen H. Burke and Karen R. Geibel were recently appointed to fill vacancies in the State Bar of Michigan Representative Assembly, both representing the 6th Judicial Circuit. With 150 members that represent the entire state’s judicial districts, the Representative Assembly is the final policy-making body of the State Bar of Michigan. The appointment of both Ms. Burke and Ms. Geibel will be effective at the April 21, 2018 meeting of the Representative Assembly. They will run for re-election this spring to hold the seat for the duration of their terms, which expire 9/30/2020 and 9/30/2019 respectively. For full details, click on the headline.

Donald D. Campbell to Serve on Ad Hoc Committee on Alternative Billing Structures

Attorney Donald D. Campbell has been selected by State Bar of Michigan President Lori Buiteweg to serve on an Ad Hoc Committee on Alternative Billing Structures. The committee will be considering alternative fee arrangements and ways to clarify obligations required by MRPC 1.5, including proposed amendments to the rule and the comments, a possible definitional section, and other constructive ways to provide further ethics guidance to SBM members regarding fee arrangements. Don was counsel for Patricia Cooper in the Michigan Supreme Court case that authorized non-refundable retainers, GA v Cooper, 482 Mich 1079 (2008).
